The most important word is operated. The verified statement is carrier-scoped: it concerns flights operated by Iranian airlines. It does not, by itself, say that UAE airspace is closed, that every non-Iranian airline between the two countries has been suspended, or that every itinerary involving Iran and the UAE is cancelled.
A traveler should therefore check the operating carrier, exact flight number, travel date and every connection. The logo on the ticket seller or the marketing flight number may not identify the company that physically operates the aircraft. A codeshare can make that distinction especially important.

Operating carrier versus marketing carrier
An itinerary can display one airline's code while another airline operates the aircraft. The operating carrier normally appears in the itinerary as “operated by” or in the detailed flight information. This distinction is central because the authority's statement is framed around flights operated by Iranian airlines.
Check four fields in the original booking record:
- operating carrier;
- marketing carrier and flight number;
- departure and arrival airports;
- ticket issuer.
If any field is unclear, obtain written status from the carrier or ticket issuer. Do not rely only on a generic airport board, a travel seller's search result or an automated “on time” label that may not reflect a regulatory suspension.
A mixed itinerary may contain one affected segment and one unaffected segment. The entire journey can still fail if the first segment cannot operate. Direct flights, connections and separate tickets
A passenger on a direct Iranian-airline flight to or from the UAE is within the clearest impact group. A passenger connecting through the UAE on an Iranian carrier may also face disruption because one or more affected operating segments touch the UAE. A passenger on a non-Iranian carrier needs a fresh status check rather than an assumption.
Connections become more fragile when tickets are separate. If one segment is cancelled, the next carrier may not treat the missed onward flight as a protected disruption. Travelers should identify whether all segments share one ticket number and whether baggage is checked through. The authority's notice does not answer those contractual questions.
Do not travel to the airport solely because the original itinerary remains in an app. Confirm the operating status close to departure and keep a record of the response. Use precise questions that can produce an actionable answer:
- Is the exact flight operating on the booked date?
- Which airline physically operates the segment?
- Has the booking been cancelled, held, rebooked or left open?
- If rerouted, what are the new airports and transit points?
- Will checked baggage transfer through every new connection?
- What happens to later segments on the same ticket?
- What written options apply if the replacement does not meet the journey's purpose?
Avoid asking only, “Are UAE flights cancelled?” That wording is too broad and can lead to a generic response. Provide the date and exact flight number but do not publish personal booking details publicly.
If the trip is urgent, identify more than one safe outcome: rebooking, postponement, a lawful alternative route, or remaining in place. Do not construct an improvised route through a country whose entry or transit requirements you have not verified.
Refunds, rerouting and assistance
The GCAA statement did not create one public remedy for every traveler. Passenger rights may depend on the carrier, point of sale, ticket terms, departure jurisdiction, payment method and whether the journey is on one contract. A responsible page should not promise a refund or hotel when the evidence does not establish it.
Collect documentation before a dispute develops:
- original itinerary and ticket number;
- payment confirmation;
- cancellation or change message;
- written carrier response;
- receipts for reasonable replacement costs;
- travel-insurance terms and claim instructions, if applicable.
Keep the original booking active until the responsible party explains the effect of any change. Independently buying a replacement before understanding the existing ticket can create duplicate cost and complicate a claim.

Allow extra time for an airport visit if the carrier has instructed you to attend, but avoid unnecessary travel when the flight is confirmed cancelled. Keep essential medication, documents, charging equipment and one change of clothing in hand luggage. Disruption can separate a traveler from checked baggage even when a new flight is eventually arranged.
